If you’ve ever thought you were too old or too late to start something new, I’ve got news for you — that’s a lie. And today, I’m breaking it down.
As someone who started a business in my 30s and 40s, I can tell you with absolute confidence: this season of life is not a disadvantage. It’s your sweet spot.
When I filed for my first business at 35, I had a full-time job, a baby on my hip, and absolutely no roadmap. I didn’t have a business degree or a trust fund. What I had was a clear why — and a stubborn belief that I could figure it out as I went. That belief led me to scale my company to seven figures and eventually sell it. And now, at 39, I’m building One Wild Brand — a creative web design studio that feels more aligned with who I am than anything I’ve done before.
So no, it’s not too late. In fact, it might be the perfect time.
Why the “Too Late” Myth Exists
Somewhere along the way, we started believing that success has an expiration date. That if you didn’t make the Forbes “30 Under 30,” you missed your shot.
But here’s the truth: real life doesn’t work that way. Most people don’t even know who they are in their twenties. Your 30s and 40s bring something that no degree or shortcut can — wisdom, perspective, and the courage to say no to the wrong things.
The people who say it’s too late are usually the ones who stopped before they started.
Why Starting Later Is Your Superpower
By the time you hit your 30s or 40s, you’ve already built resilience. You’ve failed, pivoted, recovered, and learned what actually matters. That’s something your 25-year-old self couldn’t possibly have known.
When you start a business now, you’re not starting from scratch — you’re starting from experience. You know what kind of work lights you up. You know what drains you. You’re better at setting boundaries and protecting your time.
That clarity is priceless.
What Starting Later Gave Me
Starting my second business in my late 30s gave me peace, purpose, and alignment I didn’t even know I was missing.
I’m not chasing hustle anymore. I’m building something that fits my life — not the other way around. I know who I want to help, and I know how I want to show up. That’s something only time and experience can teach you.
If you’re wondering whether it’s too late for you, ask yourself this: What would future-you thank you for starting today?
You’re Not Behind — You’re Right on Time
The timeline you’re comparing yourself to doesn’t exist. There’s no rulebook that says you have to build your dream before 30. There’s no expiration date on ambition.
Whether it’s launching a new business, pivoting your career, or starting that podcast you keep thinking about — your timing is perfect.
You’re not starting late. You’re starting ready.
