The One Wild Brand Podcast

Where creative strategy meets wild growth.

If you have been wondering how to plan a brand photoshoot without spiraling into stress, outfit changes, and second guessing, you are not alone. Most business owners know they need brand photos, but very few feel confident about planning them. And honestly, that makes sense.

I have been on both sides of this. First as a business owner planning photos without a clear plan. And now as a web designer who sees exactly what works once those photos land on a website or social media.

So today, I want to walk you through how to plan a brand photoshoot in a way that feels intentional, calm, and actually useful.

Why brand photos matter more than you think

Brand photos are often treated like a nice to have. Something you will do later. Or once things slow down.

However, from a website perspective, they are foundational.

Before someone reads your copy, they see your photos. Before they understand your offer, they feel your brand. And that feeling comes from visuals first.

That is why learning how to plan a brand photoshoot properly can change everything. It builds trust faster. It makes your website feel polished. And it gives you confidence to show up.

Why brand photos feel so overwhelming

Here is the honest part. Most of us hate having our photo taken.

On top of that, brand photoshoots come with decisions. What to wear. Where to shoot. How to pose. What the photos will even be used for.

Without a plan, it quickly becomes overwhelming. I know this because my first brand photoshoot was exactly that. I showed up with outfits and good intentions, but no real strategy.

As a result, I ended up with photos I barely used.

That is why I now approach every shoot differently. And it starts with planning once, with purpose.

How to plan a brand photoshoot the web designer way

This is where my web designer lens comes in. When I help clients plan photos, I am always thinking ahead.

Where will these photos live?

Will they work on a homepage hero?

Do they leave room for copy?

Can they be reused across platforms?

That is the difference between pretty photos and effective ones.

So when you are learning how to plan a brand photoshoot, start here.

Start with intention, not outfits

Before you think about clothes, think about use.

Ask yourself where these photos will show up. Your website. Your social media. Your podcast graphics. Your freebies.

Once you know that, everything else gets easier.

For example, website photos often work best when you are positioned slightly off center. This leaves space for text. Meanwhile, social photos can be more centered and relaxed.

Planning with intention saves you from disappointment later.

Create a simple mood board

Next, gather inspiration without pressure.

Pinterest is perfect for this. Save poses you like. Lighting styles. Colors. Locations. Outfits that feel like you.

Then, look for patterns. Are you pinning the same vibe over and over? That is your direction.

This step makes decisions faster later. It also helps your photographer understand your vision.

Choose the right photographer for you

This part matters more than people realize.

Skill is important. But comfort matters more.

You want someone who makes you feel relaxed. Someone who understands branding, not just portraits.

If possible, hop on a quick call. Pay attention to how you feel during that conversation. That energy will show up in your photos.

Also, remember this. A smaller budget does not mean lower quality. Many newer brand photographers are incredibly talented and more affordable.

Plan outfits early and bring more than you think

One of my biggest regrets from an early shoot was not bringing enough outfits.

As a result, I reused the same photos everywhere. And it showed.

So now, I plan outfits early. I try everything on. I move around in them. I make sure I feel good.

Because confidence shows on camera.

Bring variety. Casual. Business casual. Something polished. Something relaxed.

You cannot have too many options.

Think about props and details

Props do not need to be big or distracting.

Instead, think subtle. A coffee mug. A notebook. Your laptop. Branded items.

These small details add personality. They also help tell a story.

And as a bonus, they make your photos feel more natural.

Make the day itself feel easier

Two small things make a huge difference.

First, bring music. A playlist you love changes the entire vibe.

Second, plan the day in advance. Know what you are bringing. Know your shot list. Know your timeline.

When you are prepared, you can relax. And relaxed photos are always better.

Why this matters beyond photos

Here is the part people do not talk about enough.

Brand photos are not just about visuals. They are about confidence.

When I finally saw myself reflected professionally in my business, everything shifted. I showed up more. I spoke more. I pitched myself differently.

I have since watched the same thing happen for my clients.

That confidence is powerful.
