The One Wild Brand Podcast

Where creative strategy meets wild growth.

If you've ever wondered how to look like a bigger business, let me tell you a little secret: it has very little to do with the size of your team.

I've landed on websites before that made me assume there were ten people working behind the scenes. The branding was polished. The messaging was thoughtful. Everything felt intentional. Then I'd discover it was actually one incredibly talented business owner doing it all. On the flip side, I've also seen businesses with dozens of employees whose online presence made them feel disorganized and difficult to trust.

That contrast fascinates me.

Before I started One Wild Brand, I built and sold a seven-figure dental billing company. Looking back, our success wasn't simply because we were good at what we did. There were plenty of talented companies in our industry. What helped us stand out was how we presented ourselves. Long before branding became a priority in dental, we invested in our website, our messaging, our photography, and our customer experience. Those decisions completely changed the trajectory of our business, and honestly, they changed my career too.

Today, I spend my days helping entrepreneurs create brands that feel elevated, memorable, and unmistakably their own. One question comes up again and again:

"How do I look more established without pretending to be something I'm not?"

The answer is simpler than you might think.

You don't need to fake having employees. You don't need to rent an office you don't use. You certainly don't need to exaggerate your success. Instead, you need to create an experience that immediately communicates trust.

Here are the biggest ways I see successful businesses doing exactly that.

Your Website Should Work Harder Than You Do

I know. I talk about websites constantly.

There's a reason.

Your website is one of the only places online that you completely own. Social media algorithms change. Platforms come and go. Your website keeps showing up for your business whether you're sleeping, on vacation, or working with clients.

Think about your own buying habits.

When someone recommends a business, what do you do first?

You Google them.

Within seconds you've already started making decisions. Do they seem professional? Do I trust them? Can they actually help me? Do I understand what they even do?

Those decisions happen incredibly fast.

A polished website isn't about flashy animations or expensive design trends. It's about helping visitors immediately understand who you serve, what problems you solve, and exactly what they should do next. When your messaging is clear and your website feels intentional, people naturally feel more confident reaching out.

One feature I find myself adding to almost every website I design is a thoughtful FAQ section. Not only does it answer questions before someone asks them, but it's also incredibly helpful for SEO and AI search. Your website becomes more useful, which is exactly where search is headed.

Your Brand Doesn't End When Someone Leaves Your Website

One of the biggest mistakes I see entrepreneurs make is treating their website like it's the finish line.

It's actually just the beginning.

After someone visits your website, they'll probably click over to Instagram. Maybe they'll visit LinkedIn. Perhaps they'll download one of your free resources, join your email list, or listen to your podcast.

Every one of those touchpoints should feel like they're coming from the same business.

The colors should feel familiar. The fonts should match. Your photography should look cohesive. Most importantly, your messaging should sound like the same person everywhere someone finds you.

Confusion costs trust.

If your LinkedIn says one thing, your website says another, and your Instagram feels completely different, people start wondering whether they're in the right place. They usually won't stick around long enough to figure it out.

If you're not sure whether your branding is consistent everywhere, I created a free Brand Consistency Checklist that walks you through every platform worth reviewing. It's a quick way to catch the small details that make a surprisingly big difference.

Invest in Photography That Actually Looks Like You

If I could convince every entrepreneur to invest in two things, they would be a great website and professional brand photography.

Notice I didn't say perfect photography.

I said photography that feels like you.

Some of my favorite images I've shared recently weren't even the polished "hero" photos from my branding session. They were the moments where I was laughing, spilling my coffee, or simply interacting naturally. Those are often the photos people connect with the most because they feel human.

Professional photos instantly elevate your website, social media, newsletters, podcast artwork, blog posts, and speaking materials. Even better, original photography performs better than stock images when it comes to search and AI.

If professional photography isn't in the budget today, don't let that stop you. Ask a friend for help. Find a newer photographer building their portfolio. Start somewhere.

The goal isn't perfection. It's consistency.

Let People See That You Actually Work With Clients

This one seems obvious, but it's often overlooked. Entrepreneurs get so busy serving clients that they forget to show people they actually have clients. Testimonials matter. Project examples matter. Client wins matter. Behind-the-scenes moments matter.

People want evidence before they invest.

When someone lands on your website, they shouldn't have to imagine what it's like to work with you. They should already be able to picture themselves in the experience because you've shown it throughout your brand.

That's exactly why I encourage clients to celebrate launches, share kind words from emails, post behind-the-scenes videos, and showcase real projects whenever possible.

Social proof isn't bragging. It's helping future clients feel safe saying yes.

Borrow Strategy From Bigger Brands

One of the biggest shifts I made while growing my first business had nothing to do with my competitors. I stopped studying them.

Instead, I started paying attention to companies like Apple, Starbucks, Nordstrom, and Anthropologie. Not because I wanted my business to look like theirs. Because I wanted to understand how they made people feel.

Big brands don't randomly post on social media. They build campaigns. They repeat messages. They tell stories. They create anticipation. Every customer interaction feels connected to the next one.

Small businesses can absolutely do this too.

If you're launching a new service, don't just post about it once on Instagram. Write a blog post. Send an email newsletter. Record a podcast episode. Update your website. Share client stories. Continue talking about it for weeks instead of hoping one post does all the work.

You don't need a million-dollar marketing budget. You simply need a strategy.

Don't Sleep on Email Marketing

If social media disappeared tomorrow, how would you reach your audience? That's why I believe every business should be building an email list.

Email marketing doesn't have to mean complicated funnels or sending newsletters every week. Mine goes out once a month, and that's enough to stay connected consistently.

The beauty of email is that you're building a relationship rather than hoping an algorithm decides who sees your content.

Every time I design a website, I also love helping clients build beautiful branded email templates that match everything else in their business. That consistency makes every interaction feel intentional.

Create Resources That Continue Building Trust

One of my favorite ways to help businesses feel more established is creating helpful resources. Notice I said helpful, not complicated.

Your freebie doesn't need to be a 75-page workbook. Sometimes the simplest resources become the most valuable because they solve one specific problem really well.

For example, I created a free guide on How to Start a Podcast because it's one of the questions I get asked regularly. Inside, I share the exact equipment, software, and tools I personally use to record my own podcast. I also encourage business owners to showcase podcast interviews they've been featured on - or even better, create their own podcast - as another way to build credibility and demonstrate expertise. Every appearance becomes another piece of social proof that works long after the conversation ends.

The same principle applies to every resource you create.

When someone downloads something genuinely useful from your website, you're no longer just saying you're knowledgeable. You're proving it.

Visibility Builds Credibility

One of the fastest ways to look like a bigger business has nothing to do with your website at all.

It's becoming visible.

Join professional organizations. Attend networking events. Speak at workshops. Say yes to podcast interviews. Volunteer for panels. Build relationships with other business owners.

Every one of those experiences creates another layer of trust. People rarely hire someone after seeing them only once. Instead, they notice you over time.

They hear you on a podcast. They see your website. They receive your newsletter. They attend one of your workshops. Suddenly your name feels familiar. And familiarity builds trust.

Ironically, this is where small businesses often have the advantage. We get to build genuine relationships that many large companies spend millions trying to recreate.

Looking Like a Bigger Business Starts With One Small Step

If there's one thing I hope you take away from this article, it's this: looking established isn't about pretending you've already made it. It's about caring enough about your business to create an experience people remember.

Every thoughtful improvement adds another layer of trust. A stronger website. Better photography. Consistent branding. Helpful resources. A newsletter. Speaking opportunities. None of these things happen overnight, and they certainly didn't happen overnight for me.

When I coach entrepreneurs, I often have to remind them that everything they're seeing today took years to build. It didn't come together in three months.

So don't compare someone else's chapter ten to your chapter two. Just keep making thoughtful improvements. Before long, people won't be wondering how many employees you have.

They'll simply remember your business.
